I was alerted to this masterpiece in the masters’ studio earlier in the week and thought that it was really funny. Avery, you are a misunderstood genius!
Throughout March we are visiting 5 different schools in and around Edinburgh. Author Vivian French and 2nd year illustration students are working together with P5 kids to create some amazing stories. These stories will be printed as A2 books, and exhibited in the Scottish Storytelling Centre from June 5th.
There are some pretty imaginative and crazy drawings going on! More photos can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/eca_illustration/
2nd year illustration student Kevin Allen has work currently being shown in the upsatirs cafe at the Bongo club which is open throughout the day. The exhibition is being held as a fundraiser for the Temporary Autonomous Art Rave Tour (T.A.A.R.T) which is going round the country to raise money for a National Autonomous Art show. It is on until the 17th of February.
Youcan get more info at http://www.thebongoclub.co.uk/webpages/cafe.php.

2nd year students Oliver Ninnis, James Albon and Rebecca Crane have set up an exhibition in Mav’s, just round the corner from Evo House. It’s running for a while so go along and have a look, but if you buy a bacon roll, don’t ask for brown sauce because it’s chippy sauce and not HP. Mistake.
Morgan Ritchie (Level 3 Illustration) has won the Golden Twit award for his work on Stephen Fry’s Twitter project.

Friday October 30th saw thousands of people come to have a look at eca as prospective students. The illustration studio was full of visitors who I am sure enjoyed speaking to James in his lovely T-shirt.

Saughton Stories is a collection of books illustrated by students from eca. The authors of Saughton Stories have all spent time in HMP Edinburgh. The books are designed to help others with their reading. Amongst the titles are “Advice”, illustrated by Hannah Rye, “The Pigeon Fancier”, illustrated by Kristyna Litten, “The Jumble Sales”, illustrated by Rick Thomas, “Methadone”, illustrated by Nicola O’Byrne and “Dialysis”, illustrated by Sophie Warden. We have copies in the office if anyone wants to have a look.

Jill Calder has also been working with the 3rd years. The brief was to design a double page spread for a newspaper as creatively as possible, thinking about layout, content and overall appeal to a more youthful audience. Some students printed their work digitally while others screen-printed.
Some of the work can be seen on flickr.

Jill Calder has been working with the 2nd years to create characters based on their favourite colours, and 2 words which were chosen at random. The resulting characters were all creative and convincing, and had a story to tell.
